That’s 22 years of progress on 26 inch mountain bikes. Mine is better...

Yes the specialized is worlds better than the Walmart schwin. But look at this modern specialized. 3" tires on 27.5" wheels, carbon fiber frame and 120mm fork . It. Is. Awesomeness.

Nope. I tried to sell my wife’s 1995 specialized stump jumper but she wouldn’t let me.

I just rebuilt the drivetrain the bike that was my 16th birthday present, a Giant Iguana SE. Steel frame, lots of upgrades from when I used to ride it hard 3+ times a week in NJ and in MA. RockShox Judy 100 Hydracoil, XT parallelogram v-brakes all bolted to that beautiful matte blue frame.
In the process of rebuilding the entire thing, I had to get the BB out it. it was stuck so badly I had to use a blowtorch, c-clamp and a breaker bar. Finally came out.
of course I forget to get pictures of the bike before I send it back to my brother-in-law’s place...

The quill stem and threaded headset aren’t great, other than that there’s really nothing saying you can’t rock the older bike.

I’m still riding a 1998 Raleigh M-50 (upgraded most of the components) and a 1993 Trek 8000 single-speed conversion. Both displaying their original “Made in USA” stickers. Anything newer that around 2008 doesn’t do much for me. Get off my lawn.

I was agreeing with you! Just throwing in that it makes me feel like an old man to complain about “these kids these days and their fancy bicycles with disc brakes that they get down there at that Academy!” But seriously a well made old bike is going ride better than a modern Dick’s/Academy/Walmart bike no matter how high-tech it looks or how many gimmicks they throw in.

I know, I told him to go to the bike shop and buy a redone older bike, but NO YOU JUST HAD TO BUY A CHEAP-ASS Target bike that will break more than the older one, he’ll see I was right...

Here it is in single-speed form several years ago.
I switched it back to drop bars, brifters, and an 8-speed rear derailleur since this pic was taken.

He will know after the first time it gets wet and he doesn’t dry it off. All of the “chrome” bits will start turning orange.

Google has informed me that this is interesting:
The prominent produce company Turners and Growers announced that it would from now on export Chinese gooseberries under the name ‘kiwifruit’. Introduced to this country in 1904, kiwifruit are now cultivated worldwide, with New Zealand-grown fruit marketed as ‘Zespri’.
Not sure to whom, but if Google tells me it is, then it must be.

The specialized/trek from the 90s is far more superior than the craptastic Walmart bikes.
At the shop I was working at, we were going to charge 90 dollars for a full Walmart readjustment (to actual bike shop) and not get rekt spending 30 minutes on a 10 minute job, as everything is bent.
We actually sold a walmart spec bike, and I remember it to be one of the longer bike builds by default...because of EVERYTHING DID NOT WORK.
